How long should a boiler last?
A well-maintained boiler often runs fifteen to twenty-five years; furnaces are usually a bit less. Annual service is what decides where in that range yours lands. When one starts needing a repair every season, it's telling you something.
Is it worth switching from oil to gas?
It depends on whether gas is available on your street and what the conversion actually costs there — that's the number that decides it, not a general rule. Where the street has no gas main, propane is the other way off oil. Either conversion is our work: we install the new system, venting and line work included, quoted in full. One thing to know up front — we don't service oil equipment (no oil license), so if you stay on oil, your oil company keeps the burner; if you convert, we take it from there.
Do you replace the pipes around the boiler too?
When they need it, and we'll say so plainly. Reusing tired near-boiler piping to shave a quote is how a brand-new boiler ends up underperforming and blamed for it. If yours is sound we'll reuse it happily.
Will a new system lower my heating bill?
Usually, though by how much depends on what you're replacing and how leaky the house is. A new high-efficiency unit in a poorly insulated house still pays to heat the outdoors. We'll give you a realistic expectation rather than a brochure number.
