What We Handle

Heat is not a comfort item in central Massachusetts. The season is long, the nights get genuinely cold, and a system that quits is a problem that has to be solved today, not next week. That is why we answer no-heat calls seven days a week and work to accommodate emergencies.

We service natural gas, propane, and electric heat. And we will tell you straight what we do not: plenty of homes in this part of the county still run on oil, and we do not repair oil burners — no oil license, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can do for an oil house is install the gas or propane system that replaces it. On the gas and propane side, it is all ours: furnaces, boilers, circulators, zone valves, controls and thermostats. Electric heat is ours too — electric boilers and electric heating elements, repaired or replaced. If it is what makes your house warm, it is what we work on.

There is a pattern to this work. The first hard cold snap of the year flushes out every system that was barely holding on through the shoulder season. If yours made noises you did not like last winter, the time to deal with it is before that morning, not after.

Heating Repair FAQs

How do I know if it is the thermostat or the heating system itself?
Start with the cheap checks. Fresh batteries, the thermostat set well above room temperature, and the switch near the furnace in the on position. Also check that the breaker has not tripped. If all of that is right and nothing fires, the problem is in the system and it is time to call.
What should I have ready when I call about no heat?
Tell us your fuel — natural gas, propane, or electric — and whether it is a furnace with warm air vents or a boiler with radiators or baseboard. Then describe what it is actually doing: nothing at all, running but cold, starting and stopping, or heating some rooms and not others. That gets the right parts on the truck. If you are on oil, say so when you call — we cannot service oil burners, and we would rather save you the visit.
Do you work on oil heat as well as gas?
No — and we would rather be straight about it here than surprise you in your basement. We hold no oil license, so oil-fired furnaces and boilers are not work we can legally do. We service natural gas, propane, and electric systems. What we can offer an oil-heated home is the way off oil: we install the natural gas or propane system that replaces it, quoted firm before anything is ordered.
How much does heating repair cost?
The part that failed decides it. A control or sensor is a small job. A circulator pump or a heat exchanger is a much bigger one. We diagnose first, give you the firm price after that, and it does not move once you say go ahead.
Do you work on electric boilers?
Yes. Electric boilers and electric heating elements are regular work for us — repaired when a part failed, replaced when the element or the unit is done. They fail differently than gas equipment does, usually an element, a relay, or a control rather than anything to do with combustion, and the fix is often simpler than people fear. Oil remains the one thing we cannot touch.
Is it worth servicing the heating system before winter?
Generally yes, and for a simple reason. Problems that show up as a small noise or a slow start in October tend to become a no-heat call in January, usually on the coldest night. Catching it on your schedule is easier and calmer than catching it on the system's schedule.
